Ultra Low Emission Zone - Are You ULEZ Ready?

Ultra Low Emission Zone

Do You know About The ULEZ?

As you may or may not already know the T-Charge is now in affect in London. From April 2019 the Mayor of London and Transport For London will be implementing more changes to restrictions on emissions of certain vehicles. This will be coming into affect in regards to the emissions of both Cars, Light Commercial Vehicles, Heavy Goods Vehicles and Buses.

‘The ULEZ will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within the same area as the current Congestion Charging Zone (CCZ), and comes into force on 8 April 2019.’ - TFL.gov.uk

‘The vehicles affected by ULEZ include motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles, quadricycles, cars, small vans, large vans, 4X4 light utility vehicles, motorised horseboxes, pickups, ambulances, motorcaravans , minibuses, lorries, breakdown & recovery vehicles, snow ploughs, gritters, refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers, concrete mixers, fire engines, tippers, removals lorries, buses and coaches.’ TFL.gov.uk

If your vehicle does not meet the new standards you have the option to pay a daily charge in addition to the current Congestion Charge and current LEZ Charge.

You can check if your vehicle will meet the new standards by entering your registration number on the TFL VRM Checker.

Most vans with gross vehicle weights up to 3500kg registered before September 2016 will be affected by the new regulations. It is recommended that Light Commercial Vehicles with Gross Weights up to 3500kg have the newer Euro 6 engine which are cleaner and emit fewer emissions.

The new regulations does not just affect Diesel but also Petrol engines.

The ULEZ standards are:
  • Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category)
  • Euro 4 for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles
  • Euro 6 for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles
  • Euro VI for lorries, buses and coaches and other specialist heavy vehicles
